This weekend, the new Hunger Games: Catching Fire hit theaters nationwide and 65 markets worldwide is on pace to break the November opening weekend record. The top three biggest openings in November are all own by Twilight, with the first Twilight sequel New Moon, claiming the top spot with $142.8 million dollars. Catching Fire opened up with $25.3 million dollars on Thursday night, which is up 26% from the first film, and is considerably more than the $15.6 million that Iron Man 3 made earlier this year in May. The estimated Friday gross is $70.5 million, which includes the money made from the Thursday night previews. It also made $64 million in the other 65 markets nationwide. Along with the box office success on Thursday night and Friday, the new Hunger Games flick is receiving great reviews. Catching Fire has an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an A rating from CinemaScore exit polls. Linosgate is hoping that the great reviews will bring more casual movie goers to see the flick. I will have more on this, and other movies that played this week, tomorrow when I post my full box office report. #StayNerdy
