Here are your top five movies from this past weekend ( November 22-24).
1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – $158 million
2. Thor: The Dark World – $14.2 million
3. The Best Man Holiday – $12.5 million
4. Delivery Man – $7.9 million
5. Free Birds – $5.3 million
Nothing too shocking in these numbers. Hunger Games: Catching Fire surpassed all of the Twilight flicks for the biggest November opening. Catching Fire is also the sixth biggest opening in box office history(domestically) behind Avengers ($207.4 million), Iron Man 3 (174.1 million), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 ($169.2 million), The Dark Knight Rises ($160.8 million), and the Dark Knight (158.4 million). Also Catching Fire nearly took down The Dark Knight rises and The Dark Knight for highest 2D opening. Worldwide Catching Fire has bought in $304.6 million. The last thing to note is if Hunger Games: Catching Fire had the advantage of 3D ticket sales, then it could have very well passed Iron Man 3 for the biggest opening this year. As it stands, the biggest blockbuster of the year will be between Iron Man 3, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and this little film that opens next month called The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Aside from the Hunger Games record setting weekend, Thor 2 came in second $14.1 million. This brings the Marvel/Disney smash hit to $548.8 million worldwide. The Best Man Holiday had a solid weekend, considering the competition, with $12.5 million to bring its total to 50.8 million. Vince Vaughn’s new movie Delivery Man feel flat with $8.2 million. He did go up against massive competition, but Vince Vaughn has struggled in recent years at the box office. Rounding out the top 5 is Free Birds with $5.3 million.
There is you weekend box office round up! Once again, thank you all for your support. #StayNerdy
