News: After much speculation of the current state of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, Sony has now confirmed release dates for the next two installments of the web-slinger’s rebooted franchise, The Sinister Six (Fall 2016) and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (2018).
Breakdown: To be honest, I didn’t buy into the reports of The Sinister Six being canceled, even though the idea of a villain team movie still doesn’t make sense to me, but let’s face it, Spider-Man has made Sony a lot, and I mean a lot of money, so why not try something new to see if it works? If it does, expect Disney and Fox, and maybe even DC/Warner Bros to come out with a villain themed movie. The idea is groundbreaking but Sinister Six doesn’t really make sense. However, I’m rooting for it and maybe the success will lead to a Joker or Thanos stand alone movie.
A Thanos standalone, maybe. But I honestly don’t think a Joker standalone would ever work, specifically because his character is who he is because of the interactions he has with the Bat.
Also, the idea of a Sinister Six (villain-type) movie is kind of an iffy idea in my opinion, strictly because it leaves a lot to guess on about the plot, motivation, etc.
I agree The Joker would be a stretch, and I like the villain type movie idea because there are some villains that are extremely deep as characters that it would work, but not the sinister six. I don’t know what you can do with a group of bad guys and no Spider-Man
